Teeth whitening is one of the most requested cosmetic dental treatments since nearly everyone encounters teeth yellowing or stains at some point in their lives, even with diligent oral hygiene. Stains on your teeth, whether they’re the result of daily lattes or simply getting older, make you feel self-conscious about your smile. Teeth whitening improves your confidence and gives you a more vibrant smile—and whiter teeth make you look younger too!
In-Office Zoom! Teeth Whitening
Choose in-office teeth whitening for the most dramatic results in the shortest amount of time. You’ll notice a considerable difference in your smile with only one visit to our office, with teeth up to 8 shades whiter. The Zoom! system uses a hydrogen peroxide gel, which penetrates the enamel and dentin to break down stains and discoloration. The hydrogen peroxide is activated by laser light, which improves its efficacy.
At-Home Teeth Whitening
Patients with minor staining, or anyone who just wants to whiten their smile at home, may want to consider a take-home teeth whitening kit. You’ll visit our office for impressions so we can create a set of custom whitening trays for you to use with professional-grade carbide peroxide bleaching gel, which is only available from a dentist. We’ll walk you through how to use your at-home whitening kit and how long you should use it for best results. Many of our patients also use our at-home teeth whitening kits to maintain the results of their in-office Zoom! teeth whitening treatments.
FAQs about Teeth Whitening
Can’t I just use an over-the-counter product or whitening strips?
Over-the-counter products vary in terms of their price, effectiveness and difficulty of use. Regardless of the type of over-the-counter product that you use, however, you will not be able to achieve the whitening results that we see from in-office Zoom! whitening treatments (typically 6-8 shades lighter in one visit).
Does it hurt?
Zoom! whitening is not painful, but some patients experience some initial tooth sensitivity that dissipates quickly after the procedure is over.
What causes tooth discoloration?
Tooth discoloration is due to many factors. Aging can cause teeth to yellow, but many common food and beverage items can also stain teeth. These include, but are not limited to, red wine, coffee, tea, and soda. Tobacco use is also known for its tendency to discolor teeth. In addition, the use of tetracycline, some antibiotics, and an excess of fluoride can cause discoloration in children’s developing teeth.
Is tooth whitening right for me?
Tooth whitening can help virtually anyone with healthy but discolored teeth. However, whitening treatment may be more or less effective for different patients, depending on the nature of the discoloration. Dr. Lubliner will provide a thorough oral examination and assessment to determine whether tooth whitening is the best choice for you.
